World Environment Day 2025 was a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the planet, and PrideInn Hotels, Resorts & Camps made sure to lead by example. On June 5th, across different regions of Kenya, the group undertook a range of impactful environmental activities that brought together staff, local communities, and partners in a show of unity for the planet.

With this year’s global theme being “Our Land. Our Future,” the message aligned perfectly with PrideInn’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and responsible tourism. Each of PrideInn’s locations, from the serene coastlines of Mombasa to the wild heart of the Maasai Mara and the urban edge of Machakos, activated community-led sustainability projects with real, visible outcomes.

Uniting for the Planet: Activities Across Kenya

Machakos: Partnering for Community Impact

In Machakos County, PrideInn Plaza partnered with NEMA, the Kenya Red Cross, and several local agencies to carry out an extensive clean-up of the Athi River Market and plant trees at St. Paul Primary School. This initiative was part of the broader “One Child, One Tree” campaign, which targets the planting of 60,000 trees across Kenya.

The event was also attended by H.E. Hon. Francis Mwangangi Kilonzo, Deputy Governor of Machakos County. His presence reflected a growing collaboration between the private sector and local government in achieving sustainable development goals. Children participated enthusiastically, learning firsthand the value of environmental stewardship.

Maasai Mara: Reforesting a Wildlife Paradise

In one of Africa’s most treasured wildlife reserves, the PrideInn Mara team joined hands with the Mara Managers Association and the Talek Mara Youth Association to plant indigenous trees and clean up the Talek area. This initiative not only enhanced local biodiversity but also protected a vital ecosystem that supports both wildlife tourism and the Maasai community.

By choosing indigenous trees, the activity promoted a long-term solution to land degradation while also improving the habitat for native animals. The clean-up efforts were equally crucial, removing harmful waste from a key conservation area and reminding everyone of the delicate balance between tourism and ecology.

Mombasa Coast: Beach Clean-Ups and Marine Awareness

Over at the Kenyan coast, PrideInn Flamingo and PrideInn Paradise hosted beach and community clean-ups followed by tree-planting sessions within their lush resort grounds. These events brought attention to the direct link between hospitality and marine conservation. Plastic waste, which often ends up in oceans, was a central focus during the clean-up drives.

Staff, volunteers, and guests alike rolled up their sleeves to clean popular beaches, sending a strong message that protecting marine life starts at the shore. The tree-planting ceremonies added another layer of meaning, showing how the hospitality industry can harmonize with nature.

Why It Matters: Sustainability in Hospitality

Environmental Conservation is more than a buzzword at PrideInn Hotels, Resorts & Camps. It is a cornerstone of the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, alongside Health and Education. These projects are not isolated events but part of a deeper strategy to embed sustainability into every layer of hospitality operations.

The connection between tourism and the environment is undeniable. Healthy ecosystems attract travelers, support local livelihoods, and create lasting experiences. That’s why PrideInn’s efforts during World Environment Day are not just symbolic. They are vital contributions to a shared goal: preserving our land for future generations.

A Model for Responsible Tourism

PrideInn’s sustainability efforts highlight the importance of action over intention. Whether through planting trees, cleaning rivers and beaches, or involving youth in conservation, the group demonstrates that environmental responsibility is not limited to environmentalists—it belongs to all of us.

And by setting this example across Kenya, PrideInn encourages other hoteliers and tourism stakeholders to step up, take ownership, and act for the planet.
